A graduation night script with a finale for the whole class

A graduation night script is written by the parents’ committee, the class teacher or a host. It usually repeats last year’s: diplomas, thanks, banquet, disco. All of that is needed, but what graduates remember is mostly what they did themselves and together.

Below is a modern graduation script by blocks. It works for both the final year and the 9th grade: in the latter case the evening is shorter and the formal part simpler.

The script by blocks

  • The ceremony, 40–60 minutes. Graduates enter to music, a word from the head teacher, diplomas handed out one by one. Music and a short video about each class hold attention better than long speeches
  • Thanks. Graduates thank teachers and parents. A prepared video or song works better than reading poems from paper
  • The banquet. First toast, dinner, photo zone. The host walks parents through the evening
  • Performances by graduates. A dance, a song, a sketch about school years, a video with childhood photos. Two or three short ones beat one long one
  • A waltz or shared dance. The photographer’s key shot
  • The disco. The main part of the night for graduates
  • The finale. A shared moment for the whole class, then watching the sunrise or heading home

How to make the script fun, not awkward

  • Jokes about the class and school are written by graduates themselves, not copied from the internet
  • An award for every graduate: “always late”, “chief of cheat sheets”. Everyone gets their own certificate
  • Games without going on stage: phone polls, a school trivia quiz
  • No games dragging parents in against their will

A finale for the whole class

Graduation night ends with a disco that slowly thins out. You want a closing point the class will remember together. We make a light show out of phones: graduates and parents scan a QR code, raise their phones, and the whole room flashes to the class song. Everyone keeps a video of the glowing room.

The room flashes to the music, launched from the desk

The host or DJ launches it, no fireworks or equipment needed. That suits schools, where pyrotechnics are usually banned. It can accompany the waltz, the class song or the last disco track. From 10,000 ₽ per graduation for up to 100 guests, as many runs per evening as you like. More in a prom show.

The host’s line before the finale

Everyone, take out your phones and scan the code on the screen. Parents, you too. When the lights go down, raise your phones: this room is about to glow for your class one last time

FAQ

How long does graduation night last? The ceremony about an hour, the banquet with a programme 3–4 hours. For the 9th grade the evening is usually shorter.

Who hosts graduation night? A hired host or one of the parents. If the host is hired, send them names, facts about the class and the list of performances in advance.
