How to organize a pre-match show: step by step, with numbers and prices

A pre-match show happens as the teams walk out, when the stands are full and everyone is waiting for kick-off. For a club it means atmosphere, videos for social media and a reason for fans to arrive early. The same format works as a football half-time show or between hockey periods.

Types of pre-match shows

  • Pyrotechnics and smoke: beautiful but expensive, needs permits, and fans aren’t allowed pyrotechnics in the stands
  • A drone show: spectacular, but costs hundreds of thousands, takes weeks to prepare and gets cancelled by wind
  • A stand performance with flashlights: fans take part themselves, launch in minutes, works in an open stadium and an indoor arena

What the club provides

  • A QR code on the scoreboard 5–10 minutes before the teams walk out
  • Our control track in the stadium sound system
  • An announcement at least a minute and a half before the show: that is how long scanning the QR code takes
  • A minute in the matchday script for the launch

We prepare the show script, the fan page and the post-match report.

Preparation step by step

  • Brief: stadium, date, expected attendance, what matters more: atmosphere or a sponsor promo
  • Script and track: we prepare effects for the anthem or walk-out track and agree them with the club
  • Sound and QR check at the stadium 1–2 days before the match
  • Match day: launch by the script, participation report right after

How many fans join

At the first Krylia Sovetov show against Orenburg 550 of 4,500 fans joined. At the Lokomotiv match we added a prize draw, and 1,493 of 9,000 joined, or 16.6%. 32% of participants clicked the sponsor promo. Details in fan engagement numbers.

Two lessons: a prize draw noticeably increases participation, and every new run gets fans used to the show.

Light at the stadium

Stadium floodlights don’t go out instantly. So we run the show on flashlights: they are visible in residual light, while phone screens get lost unless the stands are fully dark. We checked this at a Spartak match.

What it costs

From 30,000 ₽ for audiences up to 1,000, a fixed price per match. For bigger stadiums see the calculator, and how the price is calculated in the pricing article. A comparison with drones is in a drone show alternative.

The format for clubs and arenas is on the stadium pre-match show page.
